Unit Helper for Juniors / Gumnuts

Girl Guides Victoria, Gumnuts, Juniors, Parent Help

Juniors / Gumnuts,

I am in need of a regular unit helper for juniors & gumnuts. Guides Victoria ratios requires us to have 2 adults at all times during the meeting. As you know, Minga (my mum) is a great help! She is our District Manager & a member of the Region team. She has also been a Girl Guide Leader for over 20 years in Carrum (35 years as a leader!). I want to “let her off the hook” on a weekly basis & allow her to come down occasionally (not weekly).

Unit Helper role would include: –

  • Be at junior & gumnut guides meetings from 6:10pm till 7:30pm each Tuesday.
  • Have a current Working With Children Check (this can be arranged through Guides Victoria if required).
  • Have Level 2 First Aid (including CPR, Asthma & Anaphylaxis) – can be arrange through Guides Victoria if required.
  • No programming or leadership training required or necessary during the nights.
  • We just need someone who is willing to help out & attend each week.

Comment here, or email Bickie. Thank you.

Free Being Me Program (Please take time to read this post & parent letter attached)

Juniors, Program, Seniors

(Please take time to read this post & the parent letter that is attached)

Empowering girls through improving body confidence. WAGGGS (World Association of Girl Guides & Girl Scouts), Dove and Girl Guides Australia have worked hard to develop a program that is girl-led, fun and relevant to the needs of girls and young women.

The “Free Being Me” has been written especially for the age groups of our units. It is an educational program that engages with exploring ideas about body confidence & beauty that will affect them as they grow up. Free Being Me shows participants that there isn’t just one way to be beautiful & that what is inside them matters the most.

Girl Guides who have taken part in the Free Being Me activities and done a Take Action project that reaches two others can receive a Free Being Me badge. Giving these badges is a great reward for the participants, and helps the World Association count out how many have taken part in the activities worldwide.

Please take a moment to read the attached letter about this program.

Request for Parent Roster (Junior / Gumnuts)

Gumnuts, Juniors, Parent Help, Program

Hi All,

Junior / Gumnuts Guides need a parent helper to organise parents for our program for Term 3. Parent help makes our night run smoother

Duties include: –

  • Establishing parents for roster
  • Be a parent contact if helpers need to swap nights
  • Ensure parents attend for duties
Girl Guides Victoria have a policy for Working With Children Check (WWC) & Police Checks. A female adult who volunteers on an occasional basis in an activity in which her child ordinarily participates is exempt from the Working with Children Check. However, this adult must not be unsupervised when working with other children. If you have a WWC (please present a copy to Tamara (Bickie) for our records) or we can arrange for a WWC to be done through Guides Victoria at no charge.
