What is International Day of the Girl (IDG)?
On December 19, 2011, the United Nations General Assembly declared October 11 as the International Day of the Girl Child, to recognise girls’ rights and the unique challenges girls face around the world. The International Day of the Girl focuses attention on the need to address the challenges girls face and to promote girls’ empowerment and the fulfilment of their human rights.
What are the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)?
The Sustainable Development Goals have been developed by the United Nations to provide a shared blueprint for tackling our biggest global challenges, with the aim of achieving them by 2030. There are 17 different goals which together recognise that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests.

An activity pack has been designed so that the requirements of the Girl Guides Victoria International Day of the Girl activity program can be completed in one Unit meeting. Ask your unit leader for this amazing resource.
